Shrimp (Penaeus monodon) juveniles (5.56± 0.13g) were fed diets contaning 0, 25, 50, 75, or 100 ppb aflatoxin B1 (AFLB) for 60 days determine the tolerance of the shrimp to this toxin. AFLB levels used were based on surveys conducted for AFLB content of commercial grower feeds. Responses were measured in terms of growth, survival, and histopathological changes. Results showed that growth of shrimp fed diets with 75 and 100ppb AFLB was signficantly lower (P < 0.05) than the other treatments. Survival of shrimp fed with AFLB contaminated diets was significantly from the control. AFLB levels in shrimp tissues were not detectable after 60 days. Various degrees of atrophy in the hepatopancreas of animals fed AFLB-contaminated and necrosis in the antennal gland of shrimps fed with 75 or 100ppb AFLB contaminated were observed.
