บทคัดย่อ/คำอธิบาย :

The study of aquatic insects and their response towards environmental conditions has been used worldwide for biomonitoring of river health. Thus the purposes of this study are to determine the influence of physical characteristics of the streams towards abundance and diversity of aquatic macro invertebrates, to ascertain potential food sources of freshwater organism together with pattern of trophic position along the food web and their response towards seasonal changes in relation to physicochemical river ecosystem. In this study, five feeders streams of Belum-Temengor Forest Complex (BTFC) had been chosen as sampling sites in a pristine of high richness and abundance of organisms and could be used as a benchmark for other rivers in Malaysia. Using stony substrate measurement procedure by Wolman (1954) and substrate classification by Wentworth (1922), the major sediment occupied the study areas was coarse gravel. High abundance of aquatic insects found on small cobble (51.54%). The results of Spearman's Rho correlation and multiple regressions test suggested a strong correlation of abundance and richness of aquatic insect with bed roughness which was the arrangement of different mean grain size and their distribution in riverbed.
